DIRECTOR'S BIO
Ms. Priya Guttal has been making a difference in the field
of education since 1992. She has solid experience in
classroom teaching, one-on-one tutoring, and school
administration.
During her early teaching career in India, she developed
an acute interest in teaching children with special needs.
This led to her decision to pursue an MS degree in
Special Education. During this program she learned a
great deal about working with children in regular as well
as special education class, US disability laws, and the
public education system.
In 2000, she founded Sonrisa School with the philosophy
that is based on small class size, ample teacher-
student interaction, stress-free, calm environment, and
regular parent feedback.
It is Priya’s mission to turn kids around by improving their
self-esteem and self-confidence. She achieves this by
devising individualized curriculum, allowing children to
learn at their own pace, focusing on basic important
skills, and making learning desirable and enjoyable.
Learning Disabilities Association of California has
recognized Priya’s perseverance, patience, philosophy,
and passion towards teaching by honoring her with the
Educator of the Year Award.
